Two worthwhile reads

The latest Lee Harris piece on the substance of the Pope's recent speech and Joseph Epstein's bittersweet essay on Friendship Among the Intellectuals.

Yet another clearly written and profound piece by Lee Harris. I read the Pope's speech but didn't completely comprehend it until reading this article. All I got out of the speech was that the NYTimes got it wrong, but hell, I knew that before I read it. This is great stuff and I would love to see a response to it from the intellectual left or moderate Islam.

Assuming either one exists.
